Gertie was a jumper! She jumped over the fence and decided she liked what she saw and has stayed. September 2003 I received a phone call from a neighbour informing me that I had a lamb in my field. How could that be in September? I raced up to have a look and sure enough there by the wall was a ewe with a lamb. That ewe was our Gertie. The weather was closing in so it was all hands to the pump to bring mum and lamb inside. The lamb was female and was christened Flory-Bunda. A very strong bond developed between Flory and her mum and to this day they still want to be together. However, Gertie is now old and rather frail and gets chased away by the other sheep when there is food, consequently, she now winters in. Flory frequently goes to the gate where she can see and greet her mum.
