Smokey Jo (Smokey for short) was a kitten when I first meet her. I was teaching a pupil at a local Secondary School at the time. She mentioned that her cat had had kittens and one was left and if no-one wanted it, it was going to be taken to the vet to be put to sleep. Can you guess what happened next? Yes, you are right she came to Diggle. I had never had a kitten before and it was a delight to watch her antics. Lucy was over the moon and she became her adopted mum and what a good mum Lucy made. Smokey developed into a quiet, timid cat with the others. Apart from Lucy she never developed a friendship with the others. Towards me she was very affectionate and became very vocal if she was ignored or I spent time with the other cats!
Smokey lived well into her teens and just like many other of my cats developed kidney problems. On the sad day she died, I took her to Rossendale Pet Crematorium and her ashes that I had placed in a casket, reside in her favourite spot on top of a bin. Good night sweet Smokey.
