The Digglers

The Not A Full Shilling Cat

The Digglers' Cat ~ CuthbertCuthbert came from the Cats Action Trust in Oldham. This is a society that works with feral cats. Cuthbert however was not a feral. He had been dumped outside a pub in Saddleworth and they contacted the society and they took him in. At the time I knew the lady that ran the sanctuary and she phoned to see if he could come to Diggle and he did. Cuthbert spent many years enjoying the gardens and the inside areas. There was something not quite right about Cuthbert, he didn't seem as we say in these parts a full shilling! I often wondered as to whether he had suffered some kind of brain damage. He was a very loving cat and many a time he would escape through the door and go across the road and visit the neighbours. At times this annoyed them as he would sit gazing in their window and make the most peculiar howling noise and it wouldn't be long before he was brought back!! Cuthbert was another kidney casualty!
