The Digglers

The Bonfire Night Cat

The Digglers' Cats ~ Bonty Bonty a male cat was brought to the local vet just before bonfire night, hence his name. He had been found wandering the streets perhaps frightened by the noise of fireworks. He was kept at the vets for several days to see if his owner or indeed if he had an owner came to enquire about him. No-one did. They contacted me to see if I had room. Yes, providing he did not have any viruses he could become a Diggler. He was clean so up he came. He quickly settled in and his favourite spot was in the hay. On New Years Day, I went up at lunch time with some friends. I found Bonty struggling for breathe. I immediately contacted the vet and took him round. He said there was evidence of heart problems which could be connected to thyroid trouble so he was kept in overnight and the following day he had some blood tests.

The tests confirmed that he had an over active thyroid and was placed on medication and sent home. Unfortunately, sadly, two days later I found him dead. He has now been buried in the garden with full military honours.

'A snowflake in my hand'. Rest sweet Bonty.
