Digglum Bestiaruim ~ The Digglers' Crest

The Digglers

Lucy Merritt

Dear Michael, Kathleen and trustees,
I am very pleased to announce I passed my final veterinary exams and I am due to graduate and become a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons on July 18th.I would like to say thank you for all your support over the last 5 years, but thank you isn’t enough to express my extreme gratitude for all you have done, and for continually supporting me- even during my 1st year when I was unable to pass my 2 in 1 year and I had to re-sit! Without the support of the Digglers Charitable Trust, I would not be in the position I am now, ready to start a lifelong career as a Veterinary Surgeon, and for that I will always be thankful to you.
I am hoping to go into mixed veterinary practice to start with to achieve a base knowledge and skills and then move into 100% farm animal after that. As a mixed practitioner I will be looking for a job with a large animal bias, working alongside other practitioners with a wealth of farm knowledge as well as some clinicians with a small animal background. This will provide me with enough clinical judgement to cope with small animal situations which I may be faced with in an emergency- even when I am solely a large animal vet!
Please do let me know if there is anything I can do to help the trust in the future, or even just for free vet advice!
Thank you so much, again,
Yours sincerely,
Lucy

Charlie Astle's Letter

My graduation consisted of 2 ceremonies, one to graduate for my BVSc and one to get sworn into the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Despite the rain it was an amazing, emotional day as it all finally dawned on me that I am now a qualified vet! My parents were very emotional too, I know they are very proud of me and as well as my colossal thanks for your help, they would also like to extend their gratitude to you for helping their daughter achieve her dream.

My new job as an equine vet is going really well. The practice is extremely busy at the moment so it has been a very steep learning curve, but I love a good challenge! I have treated so many interesting cases already and it has only been a month! It feels so good to actually be making a difference and helping animals in need. The team at the practice are all lovely and have been so helpful and really made me feel welcome, I don't think I could have found a nicer practice to start out at.

Please find attached some photographs from my graduation, the graduation ball and one of me on my first day at work.

I will endeavour to keep in touch and would like to take this opportunity to thank you one last time for making this possible!

Kindest regards,
Charlie

Hi Kath,
Thank you very much, I will let Helen at Edinburgh know.
I wish you a wonderful Xmas and New Year also - i am crossing everything that she does indeed get those magic letters. We certainly will keep in touch and I would like to try and stay involved with fundraising if I can - I mean it wholeheartedly when I say that we categorically could not have got to where we are without your assistance and I wish to repay that kindness in any way I can.
Thankfully, just the one more payment to go next year though!!!!
Thanks
Scott

Hi Kath,
Just to let you know that Hayley has received her results and is somewhat overjoyed to have passed! Five years of very hard work and now starts the fun challenge of finding a job...
I've said it many times before, but thank you very much for you assistance along the way as we certainly wouldn't have done it without the help offered by you and Vet Vouchers/The Digglers.
Thanks
Scott (and Hayley!)

I am in my fourth year of studying veterinary medicine, having entered the course as a graduate. Raising funds has been no easy task, but I owe a great deal of my success to the trustees at The Digglers. Being registered with the charity has made it possible to apply for, and receive funding that would not have otherwise be possible. There is also no doubt that it inspires confidence for potential financial donors. The trustees have always been very prompt at passing on funds to the university and excellent in communicating and discussing payments and fundraising ideas. I am extremely grateful for the support the trust has given me over the past few years and will endeavour to do all I can to return the good will!
